ABOUT THE OWNER
Kelsey Lewinski is a Wayne State graduate with a BFA in Dance. Kelsey graduated in 2018 and proceeded to tour and dance professionally for the critically acclaimed contemporary company, Eisenhower Dance Detroit, for 3 seasons.
Kelseys Pilates journey began in high school as she had weekly reformer sessions with her mom to aid in the healing process of a dance-related hip injury. Then, while in college in 2016, Kelsey took her first Stott Pilates Matwork course. Over the span of her college career and while dancing professionally, Kelsey received her full STOTT PILATES® Level 1 Certification (Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair & Barrels) plus Injuries and Special Populations. Kelsey has since taught at the nationally recognized Equilibrium Pilates Studio in Bloomfield Hills as well as taught matwork at Equinox for upwards of 6 years. Kelsey still teaches dance and choreographs in addition to teaching Pilates full time.
WHAT IS PILATES?
“Pilates is a low-impact full body workout that promotes strength, stability, flexibility, posture, balance, body control, awareness and alignment” (Merrithew Website). While we find this definition to be overwhelming with its verbiage, Pilates is truly so many things. It is versatile in its benefits, yet always coming back to control at its “Kore”. Just as it can aid expecting mothers in strengthening their hips and pelvic floor, it can also assist a senior citizen working on balance to avoid a fall. Truly every age and body type can find benefit in Pilates and we hope to help our community understand the joy of this movement modality.
Our group of exceptionally trained instructors have had 20+ hours of training per piece of apparatus, in addition to passed both written anatomical and physical practical teaching exams. Our instructors can help you work through an injury, train you for athletic goals, achieve better posture and more. Stott Pilates is a contemporary approach to the classical, original Pilates method created by Joseph Pilates. Although the word 'contemporaary' is floating around a lot in the Pilates world, STOTT still remains true to Pilates principles and apparatus, varying greatly from current Lagree and Megaformer trends. Click here for an explanation of how Pilates varies from Lagree exercise, such as Solidcore.

There are many styles of Pilates available now to consider when finding a training program. IF you are near us in Michigan and hoping to get STOTT Certified, we recommend Equilibrium Pilates Studio in Bloomfield Hills. They were the first teacher-trainer facility in the US for this method and have been hosting both comprehensive and intensive training courses for over 26 years. Our owner Kelsey was also trained and taught there for many years!
Otherwise, we additionally recommend Balanced Body training. While a more Classical approach than STOTT, they have a great foundation with anatomically based courses and material.
